The property sits on just over half an acre and includes 3,343 sq. ft. of living space, four baths, modern amenities and energy efficient systems. Bruce Baker of William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty is marketing the property for $1,699,000.
22 Morehouse Drive was purchased in 2012 with plans to completely renovate and eventually sell the house. “The structure of the home was really good when we bought it, so all we had to do was focus on the design, layout and updating it to our liking,” said the resident homeowner. “Looking back, we are very happy with the way it turned out.”
The home’s value begins with its location. Morehouse Drive is on a quiet cul-de-sac within walking distance to the train station, restaurants, shops, schools and parks.
"We had seen quite a few Darien homes with Bruce prior to his suggestion," said the homeowner. "Given our criteria, location was an absolute home run, and we wanted a fixer-upper,” he said. “The bones of the house were good so we didn’t run into the problems many people face when renovating a house, like lead paint, asbestos or a wet basement.”
Stamford-based Strazza Building & Construction Inc. helped make the homeowner's plans a reality. Their updates to the interior of the home included a kitchen with granite counter tops and custom cabinetry, a family room with a fireplace, french doors and new baths and floorboards.
“Working with our contractor is really what made this a success,” said the homeowner. “This was our first time doing this, so we needed a little bit of hand-holding.”
The exterior landscaping has also been updated with plantings, a fully irrigated lawn, copper gutters and a backyard patio.
“Looking back, we are very happy with the way it turned out," said the homeowner. "It has exceeded our expectations and we plan on doing something like this again.”
